Bart Lawler - Registered Company Auditor
Chartered Accountant
I spent my formative years in Port Macquarie and completed my schooling at St. Joseph's High School. Growing up, I was an avid sportsman and participated in various sports such as football, rugby, and athletics. However, baseball was my true passion, and I excelled at it, representing both the region and NSW. This competitive nature has been with me ever since.
I started my career in the hospitality industry but was encouraged by my wife to switch to accounting. Starting as an accounts payable clerk with Hastings Council, I completed a TAFE Diploma in accounting and worked my way up to becoming a management accountant. Eventually, I joined NorthCorp Accountants in the audit department in 1999.
In 1999, I also completed my Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Southern Queensland and went on to complete the Graduate Diploma in 2003 with Chartered Accountants Australian and New Zealand, becoming a fully qualified Chartered accountant.
Since 2007, I have been a partner of NorthCorp Accountants, having obtained my Certificate of Registration as an Auditor and Certificate of Public Practice that same year. As a registered company auditor, I have worked on various audit engagements for public companies, registered clubs, credit unions, self-managed superannuation funds, aboriginal medical services, land councils, timeshare, and other not-for-profit organizations.
I have been actively involved in the self-managed superannuation industry since 2006, providing accounting and administration services to over 180 Super funds. As a CA SMSF specialist, I completed the CA SMSF Specialist Certificate of Attainment in 2013 and continue to maintain my knowledge as legislation changes. My experience in this field has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by self-managed super funds and provide guidance to trustee to ensure compliance and achieve their needs.
Apart from my work in accounting, I have diverse interests in my personal life. I am a dedicated yoga practitioner and meditate and practice pranayama (breathwork) regularly. I once participated in a 10-day Vipassana meditation course in the Blue Mountains. I also enjoy taking ice baths and various adventures including hiking challenges to Nepal’s Everest Base Camp in 2019 and Patagonia in Southern Argentina in 2023. I enjoy learning new things every day and I am always up for a challenge. My curious nature leads me to be open to new ideas and to constantly seek out new opportunities for growth and development.
I have been happily married to my wife Mandy, who is a yoga teacher, since 1994. We currently reside in Port Macquarie, where we enjoy traveling, spending time at the beach, and spending quality time with our friends.
My diverse experiences both professionally and personally have allowed me to develop a unique perspective in my work as an accountant. As an individual, I strive to uphold honesty, integrity, and hard work, and I believe that these values are reflected in the quality of service I provide to my clients.
"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving." - Albert Einstein this quote reflects my commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.
Darren Johnson - Registered Company Auditor
Chartered Accountant
I joined NorthCorp Accountants in July 2001. Before starting with NorthCorp, I had been employed for sixteen years as an Electrical Fitter/Mechanic.
My qualifications include being a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and I hold a Bachelor of Business with an Accounting Major from the Southern Cross University. I am a Registered Company Auditor, an ASIC Approved Self-managed Super Fund Auditor, and I also hold a Certificate of Public Practice with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
As an experienced senior audit manager, I represent the firm as a lead auditor on various audit engagements, including those involving public companies, registered clubs, financial institutions, self-managed superannuation funds, aboriginal medical services, land councils, and other not-for-profit organizations.
I was born and live in Port Macquarie with my wife Kim, and we have three grown-up children. I highly value quality time spent with family and friends, and I enjoy indulging in activities such as golfing or exploring our region through hiking or riding my motorbike.
Elvis Presley once said, "Values are like fingerprints. Nobody's are the same, but you leave them all over everything you do," and I wholeheartedly resonate with this sentiment.
Alaine Ylias - Registered Company Auditor
Chartered Accountant
I began my professional journey as an administration trainee for a local Co-operative that placed great emphasis on supporting the community. This value has continued to guide me throughout my career.

My expertise encompasses providing internal and external audit services to a diverse portfolio of clients, including Not-for-Profits, Credit Unions, Registered Clubs, Aged Care Facilities, Retirement Villages, Co-operatives, and Proprietary Companies. Additionally, I am listed on the NSW Aboriginal Land Council Accepted Auditors and am an approved external examiner for the Law Society of NSW.
As a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, I hold a Bachelor of Business from Charles Sturt University and a Certificate of Public Practice with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
In my role as a team manager, I possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, which enable me to support and mentor team members to achieve their highest potential. As an auditor, my affable nature allows me to engage with clients and develop a deep understanding of their business.
On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 children, and we enjoy our 200-acre beef farm located at Telegraph Point, where I have spent my entire life as a local.
